Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Hatcher Labs LLC, operating as Slow Burn Studio (“Slow Burn Studio,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), collects, uses, and shares your information when you use our AI-assisted creative writing platform for serialized adult fiction.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we receive the following from our authentication provider (Clerk): your email address, display name, and avatar URL. We store this in our database to identify your account.

Age Confirmation

Before accessing the platform, you must confirm that you are at least 18 years old. We record your attestation and the timestamp of that confirmation.

User-Created Content

Everything you create in Slow Burn Studio — stories, chapters, outlines, personas, voices, projects, and draft history — is stored in our database so the service can function. You own this content; see our Terms of Service for details.

AI Generation Usage Metadata

When you use AI generation features, we log metadata about each request: the edge function called, the AI model used, token counts, estimated cost, and completion status. These logs are used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and service monitoring. Usage logs are retained for 90 days, then automatically purged.

Payment Information

Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see, receive, or store your payment card numbers. Stripe collects and processes your payment information directly under their own privacy policy.

Analytics Data

We use Google Analytics to understand how the service is used. Google Analytics collects information such as pages visited, session duration, device type, browser, and IP address. Google Analytics sets cookies (including _ga and _ga_*) on your device. See Google’s privacy policy for details on how Google processes this data.

Server Logs

Our hosting provider (Vercel) automatically collects standard server logs, including your IP address, browser and operating system information, and request timestamps.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Operate and provide the service
  • Process payments and manage subscriptions
  • Enforce our content policies and prevent abuse (including rate limiting and cost controls)
  • Monitor and improve service performance and reliability
  • Communicate account-related information such as billing confirmations and service updates

3. How Your Content Is Processed

When you use AI generation features, your creative content — including story premises, character descriptions, outlines, and style settings — is transmitted to third-party AI model providers via OpenRouter for the purpose of generating text.

We have disabled all training, logging, and data-retention options on our OpenRouter account. Your content is not used to train AI models and is not retained by model providers beyond the immediate generation request.

Generated content is stored in our database and belongs to you.

4. Third-Party Service Providers

We use the following third-party services to operate Slow Burn Studio. Each processes data as described above and under their own privacy policies:

5. Data Retention

  • Account data is retained while your account is active and deleted when you delete your account.
  • User-created content is retained until you delete it. Deletion is permanent and irreversible.
  • AI usage logs are retained for 90 days, then automatically purged.
  • Age-confirmation records are retained for the life of your account to comply with payment processor requirements.
  • Analytics data is subject to Google Analytics’ retention settings.

6. Your Rights

You may:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data by contacting us at legal@slowburnstudio.com.
  • Export your content at any time using the in-app export features.
  • Delete your account, which permanently removes all associated data.

California residents: Under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of its sale. We do not sell, rent, or share personal data for advertising or marketing purposes.

7. Children’s Privacy

Slow Burn Studio is restricted to users who are at least 18 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that we have collected data from someone under 18, we will delete it immediately.

8. Security

We protect your data through:

  • Encryption of all data in transit (HTTPS/TLS)
  • Row-level security policies in our database, ensuring users can only access their own data
  • Industry-standard authentication and session management via Clerk
  • PCI-DSS compliant payment processing via Stripe — we never process or store payment card information

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through an in-app notice. Continued use of the service after the changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
